It is reported hero that British gunboatc have entered tho Zambesi river without any opposition offered by the Portuguese gunboats. Lady Rosebery is suffering from typhoid foyer.
During tho elections at Pondicherry, a maritime town, and the capital of the French settlement in India, rioting broke out, and tho voting had to bo suspended. Numerous conflicts between the rioters and military are recorded. By an explosion iit the Pyrotechnic School at Bruges, the capital of West Flanders, thirteen miles east from Ostend, five persona wero killed and forty injured. The Grand Duke Nicholas of Russia was suddenly attacked with madness during tho army manoeuvres at Volhynia. Affecting scenes took placo, and tho Grand Duko was placed under tho restraint of a physician, ■who considers his case a hopeless one.
