The Treasury fjrwarded .£162 17s subsidy on account Diuiovirko and Takapau rates, £52 ICs 6d Kumoroa and Haharaharu rates, and £123 13s 5d various sub* sidios. Property Tax Commissioner sent correction of valuation of Pjripiri blook. Survey Oflico, Wellington, stated as Order-in-Oounoil had been passed declaring portion of road at Kopua to be a county road. Minister of Lands, stating that an Order-iu-Oouncil had been passed creating sooticta 144, block 6, Norsewood, vesting it as a. gravel reserve for the Council. Ebbett was a party, whose money due by Council had been stopped.— Resolved that the clerk pay tho original contractor, W. Ebbott. Woodville Borough Council forwarded account for half cost of Manga-atua bridge. Jjeft over. WoodvitlQ Road Board asked for a grant-iii-aid for poisoning small birds.—Resolved on the motion of Crs. Harding' and Horriok that no further stibsidies be given for that purpose. North Ruataniwha Road Board asked a y**t subsidy for improving Kaikora-Milbourne A road. —Overseer to report. . Mr Loughuan wrote on several subjects referred to him. Hardmg's road near Waipawa, plans had not been certified by surveyors and some few pei?s were required. Tho overseer was direoted to get the required signatures. Jie Larabertford road plans, it was resolved that the old road be closod and a special meeting oalled to oonfirm resolution, lie sections 18 and 23 Patangata he advised that the rate was recoverable and suggesting a course of procedure. Resolved that a demand be sent to Mr Rathbone for last year's rate ; that tho bnlnnco be acceptod from Mr Knight; and that Property Tax Department bo asked to reduce the value.

Malcolm McKay aeked Council to fell a road his sootion as ho was going to sell his land.—Ovorseor directed to comply with request. An account of 30s for maps was passed for payment. Fifty pound was granted to North Kuataniwha Road Board as subsidy for metalling Hampden-Spring Vale road, with a recommendation that tho Board spend au equal sum on it. In reply to Mr Edgecombo the clerk was directed to inform him that tho overseer would aoo him tiud go over road. On tho motion of Crs. Smith and Ericksea £100 was voted to tho County Hospital. : Mr J. Wheeler's account for compensation, land, &c, £30 was ordered to bo paid whou. the conveyance was signed.

Meeers Boss and Davidson were appointed a Finance Committee.

Tho following Boad Overseer's report was read:— A Waipawa Hiding.—Mr M. Hanuon will comploto the formation and metalling of forty chains of Waipawa-Hampden road during the present month. An additional forty chains of thia road from the tormina* tion of the proseut contract towards Waipnwa requires forming and metalling, aa it always uuts up inucli durini? wet weathur. Waipukuraa Riding.— Am instructed, I havo insncotod the bridge aorossi the swamp, also tlio roid approach to river on Waipu-kurau-JFairfieli road with a viyw qt asoer'.tainiug , the best means of protecting that portion of road against the encroachment of tho river. The river has at present encroached to within a few yards of tho swamp und consequently will compel traffic to go over gjft ground, and I do not believe a permanent road approach can lie obtained opposite tho present bridge, as it is located opposite an uugle in tlie lives, and

the full force of the ourrent is striking against the bank. The beat course to secure a permanent useful road would be to form and metal road across the swamp about a cbain above the bridge, and out a drain on the upper eide of said road, so as to dry the swamp, and the approach to tho river can be easily protected by driving v few rods on the upper side. The distanoo of road required would be about 4 chain?; tl >« bridge could then be taken down and used for other works. It -was remarked by some Councillors a few months ago that it would be better to allow the river to cut its cotirso into this swamp, but I believe it would take a number of years to accomplish, and in the meantime thero would be no practicable road, more especially during winter. Korsewood, Ormondville, and Danevirke Ridings.—l have nothing in particular to bring'beforo tho Council in connection with these ridings, moro especially until funds are available- The maintenance works are being carried out satisfactorily, the roads being in excellent condition. Woodville Biding.—The repairs to the different bridges throughout this riding are in a forward state. When the Council is in funds I -would recommend the formation of about 20 chains of Pinfold Eoad ox tension, as that road is impracticable for wheel triiflio until such is done.—As instructed I interviewed the Woodvillo Town Olerk in connection with the expedituro and the eroution of the' Manga-atua bridge, also some metal patching on Pinfold road, and as far ac I could see nverything in connection with the expenditure is quite correct, but with respect to that portion of Pinfold Koad which is on the boundary between the oounty and Woodville borough I would suggest dealing with it in the same manner as the Waipawa-To Aute road, that is to divide the distance, and each body take charge of their equal proportion. Ruataniwha Riding.—During the present month I have pegged off and taken tho levols on proposed deviation ovor Webster s Hill on tbo Blackburn-Ashley-Clinton road, and also an approach to the Tukituki river for the purpose of forming a connection with the crosß road through Mr Findlay Morrison's property to connect with tho Blaokburn Ridge *oad. I havo as instructed written to Mr 8. Bridge in reference to this road connection, and I believe an answer has been received from that gentleman, and also from Mr GradwoU, in connection with tho deviation over Webster s Hill. I have also as instructed been over Mr Consitt s road and have explored through section 8, block 1., belonging to Mr Jaa. Mathows ot Haaipden, with a view of ascertaining whether ii good wad could be procured to tap sections 7 and 3, block 1., as petitioned for by Messrs N. P. Rossvall and O. Lareen, and would state that a good road could be obtained to tap both of tho eections in question; the length of road required would be about 20 chafne, and there can bo no doubt that tho road extension is very much required, in fact there is no road communication with sec. t, as tho present road stops at the entrance to tho section at tho edee of a ravine, and sec. 3 is in about the same position. I am not aware as yet on what terms Mr Mathews would allow tho road to be taken through his section, but I believe be will meet the Council in a reasonable way, that ih, if it is decided to extend the road. Mr Edgeoombe has cent some letters to the Council expressing dissatisfaction with the proposed road deviation I intended going over the road with him during the part month, but could not find time I will do so whenever convenient to him during the current month. A. GILMOUR, Rond Overseer. On Waipawa, tho Overseer was directed to call for tenders for the other 20 chains as reoommonded. in ©ii Waipukurau, re bridge approach, the ■work was authorised, and tho Overseer to try to arrai.go about the road deviatiou. Resolved that £100 voted in Juno for Danevirke to Wainui road bo paid next "on Woodville, Pinfold road extension to bo brought up again next month; £S Ms 3d, half cost of M.H'jra-atua bridge, ordered to be paid to Woodville Borough Council. Tho Ovemoor to arrange with tho Borough Council to divide road work as suggested by him. , , ~ , ~ On Ruatauiwha, it was resolved that the owners be notified that tho Counoi lw vailing to arrange to take- road ovit Webster c Hill, and if not arranged, to take it under Public Works Act. Tendon* to bo called for forming M chains of road connecting with Blackburn. . The clerk was directed to apply to Land Board for deferred thirds accrued two yearn ago, of which £7,000 wae oue to Council and inform tho several Road Boards interestod to hand in their propomb for expenditure ; tho total sum being £2, A Ms ,<i. lie Dγ Mirbach's application and in rep y to tho chairman Cr. Bibby said all ho could say relative to tho laying of a culvert awosa Ruataniwha road that tho work wae left to the Works Committee of tho I own Board and he was one of the committee. Iho clerk wae directed to write to the Bourd and enquire if tho work was going on, and if not that it was to be done at onco. In reply to tho Chairman the Returning Ofliccr ea'id he had no reccoineadation to make in view of tho general elwt.on. On tho motion of Cr. Eriokson an additional polling place for Noreowood riding to bo made at Matamau. , | Tenders for delivery of 150 yards gravel on Kopna-Nowowood road: Fere Magniusonlß Bd, Ole Olson Smidt Is id,
