_ September 24. Mr Luscombe Searelle's opera "The Black Rover" has been produced at tho Globe Theatre with fair success. Miss Blanch Fenton takes a part, and Mrs Searelle is the prima donna. Mr Patrick O'Brien, MP., has been arreßted on a charge of intimidation.

Mr Macfarlane has given notice in the Legislative Assembly to move for the imposition of an import duty of 6d a bushel on maize, wheat, oats, barley, and ryeof 4d pe_ bushel on beans and peas; of 10a per ton on hay, chaff, and potatoes' and £1 a ton on flour and meal.

Tho shief officer of the Union Company', new steamer Taviuna arrived to-day at Wilson's Promontory in a boat, and reported that the vessel had broken down some distance to the east of the point. Shortly after the P. and O. Company's steamer Carthage was sighted with the Taviuna in tow. The latter sails en her maiden trip in these waters to Suva on Saturday.
