UNWARRANTABLE INTERFERENCE with the LIBERTY
OF THE PRESS,
THE WELLINGTON PAPERS ASKED TO DISCONTINUE UNION CO.'S AND UNION ADVERTISEMENTS.
AN INDIGNANT REFUSAL,
[PER TRESS ASSOCIATION.!
Wellington, This day. The proprietors of the three daily Wellington papers havo received tbo following letter signed by the secretary of the Federated Wharf Laborers' Union : —Sir,—" I am instructed by tho federal committee of tho Maritime and Trade and Labor Unions to kindly request that you will withdraw the Union Company's and Union advertisements during the present labor crisis. The committee "further request that you will furnish truthful and impartial reports of tho developments of tho labor trouble, such reports to be obtained from official sources. Au early reply will oblige. Signed, Robert Skymoub, secretary." The proprietors of all threo papers are unanimous in resentiug this letter as an unwarrantable interference with the liberty of the press. The Post aud Press and tho Times to-morrow morning, will publish strong remonstrances absolutely declining to accede to tho request or to accept iv any way tho restrictions sought to bo imposed on the conduct of tbeir business.
