WHY THE PUKAKI'S MEN STRUCK.

The Pukaki's crew who struck were replaced by eight firemen and two deck hands. Tho vessel left for Bussoll and Fiji early this morning. Sho will, however, bo blocked at Kusscll, for the Bay of Island coal miners have refused to work coal for any vessel manned by non-union or " blackl.g " labor. The first and second officers of the Pukaki, who left, state they did not do so because of any unionist call, but. because they considered the free crew shipped wero not competent, and the ship was not fit to proceed to sea manned as she was. Tho officers of the Waihora and Fukaki state that they did not wire a declaration to remain in the vessels to Dunedin, but informed the local agent that they would tako the ships to headquarters provided they bad oompetent crews The crew of the Waihora struok in a body this morning and left tho vessol at tho Queen street wharf. A non-union cretv were being shipped to-day. The steamer leaves for the south at five this evening if practicable. There has been no disturbance, things passing oil'quietly.
