Fob somo timo there have been mysterious rumors of a " dark horse" that would be put forward to oppose Captain Russell at tho next general elections. Tho veil has now been lifted, and has revealed the person of the son of our late and much respected townsman, Mr Reardon. The late Mr Reardon for many years was a bootmakor on the Shakespearo" road. His son, who is now credited with the ambition of becoming a legislator, is a surveyor, and this ia the first timo that we have ever heard his name in conneotion with politics. As a' Liberal candidate Mr Reardon will be a great improvement on Mr Desmond, but wo doubt very much whether he will ever rise to tho position in the political world that has been attained by Captain RnsseU. This, however, is of very littlo consideration, because vrd are not at all certain that tho electors of Hawko's Bay will choose to change their present representative—who is admittedly one of tho best men now in Parliament —for a gruen-Uorn iv politics.
