Mr Best, the organist, having recovered from his recent eeveroillness, the inauguration of the new organ in the Centennial Hall has taken place. There was a very largo attendance, and the performance was a great success. Tho Rev. Charles Clark to-day preached a sermon, the proceeds of the collection after which were to go to charitable purposes. The hall was crowded, some 4000 to 6000 persons being present. Tha announcement that the organ would not bo played was received with hisses. At a meeting of railway men resolutions were carried protesting against the dismissal of 600 hands who were employed on the permanent way, the work being given to contractors. As the dismissal was likely to lead to serious trouble an interview was sought with the Chief Commissioner, 'Mr > Eddy, who explained that the arrangement was not permanent, and that as opportunityarose the men would bo re-engaged.
