WELLINGTON R.G. WINTER MEETING.
[own corkisspondeot.]
[BY TEIKQE4PH.]
Wellington, This day.
On Saturday the attention of sporting men will be required at the Hutt, when the Wellington Kacing Olub'B winter meeting is to be held. Given fine weather, there should be a large attendance, as the Governor and Lady Onslow will be present, and the Club has generously invited'all members of the Legislature. None of the great cross-country horses will take part, but the fields promise to be sufficiently large to warrant an excellent day's sport. Seven have acoepted for the Trial Steeplechase, two miles, and Asper should win, with Waipipi and Sir Maurice next. The best ten are left in in the flurdles, ono and three-quarter miles, and whatever beats Eaven (9st 121b) should win, Gladstone and The Dream being the best outsiders. j The eight paid up for the Steeplechase, three miles, are a very mixed lot, and should Darnley (lOst 111b) take fitfully to his fences, he ought to win easily. Orient reads well at lOst 41b, but the old horse is said to be losing his pace. Of the others Gladius (lOst) and Gasparini (9st lOlb) are well treated, and to sura up, I expect Darnley or Gasparini to win, with. Orient handy. The Ladies , Bracelet should be a gift to Leonardo. The other events are only of local importance, except the Welter Handicap, for which the weights will be declared on the day.
