The Unionist party in England, whicj/ comprises all shades of politicians, hay* cast about for a name that shall distinguish them from the Gladstonian Liberals, the Labouchere Radicals, and the Parnellite Home Rultrs. . The name selected is " National," aud no better one could be chosen. It is quite a new name to English politics, although every country in Europe has its party of " Nationalists." , In New Zealand wo are sadly in want of distinguishing party names. We can understand "Radical "being applied to one class of politicians, but it is impossible to recognise in the name " Liberal" a party of narrowminded Protectionists, nor in , the name " Conservative" or "Tory" the party to which the colony owes the whole of „ its Liberal legislation. It has aooordingly r * been proposed that the present " Conservative" party shall adopt the' name of "Liberal," and that the party calling itself " Liberal" 6hall be known bvthe name of the "Wild Cat Screcchera."
