OVKUSKER EX BNCTwOA.CIDI.HST. With roferouce to Mr C. Graham's letter re encroachment of the Shakespeare road I have the honor to report that I havu beeu Shown the pegs stated to have been place in the footpath by Mr Roohfort in coilnection with tho recent survey of Mr Graham'a property, and hnd they are from 2ft 10in to 3ft 2in outsido tho present fence in the footpath. Tho new plans of tho town, I wonld point out, do not show any encroachment, whatever of the Shakespeare rood on Mr Graham's property. Both the "rating map" and tho " record map show tho road (as it now is and has been for veers past) as correct, with Mr Graham s house ana fence touching the road lino. Tho f<nco on the opposite side is also show J aa correct, and tho road its proper width— 60 links. The verandah of a small cottage on tho south side on the corner of Madeira road is shown to be on the road. As the new plans of the town wero prepared at much expense to overcomo such disputes, the survey made with much care, arid ~,-ivi.id and approved of by the District. Cviii Surreyor, and accepted by the Gov-

eminent and the Council as the '' standard survey of the town," it would, I think, be extremely unwise on the part of the Counpil to recognise any survey not made in strict; accordance therewith. W.
