He thought they should levy a rate and pay the contractor, as it ■would be as much troublo for him to collect the money as to earn it, and every householder ought to be compelled to have rubbish cleared fortnightly. The Chairman said i appeared to be too much trouble to collect the fees. Tho matter then dropped. A discussion arose as to shape and size of pans, and it wae decided that the Works Committee get two mado as a sample, lne Chairman said ho had got Mr. Gilmour to look over the specifications Of contract for control of closets, removal of nightsoil, &c, which were read and amended.— The Clerk proeented estimates of income and expenditure for the year. The Chairman said it was only a matter of form, and not binding; in fact, a farce, and they oouldnotgo by them. Mr Collett sugKested to strike out threo items-subsidy to Fire Brigade JE2S, street lamps £56, nnd kerosene £21. Mr McGreovy suggested putting the amount under tho heading " miscellaneous," which was done—Mr MoGreevy gave notice that at tho next mooting he would move that a rate of 7-id in the £1 be levied for tho year. Mr Harker thought it should bo 10d, and tho difference spent in widening Bibby street. Mr McGreovy would not agree to this, as it was before its time. The other members took a similar view, and it would bo soon enough when tho property owners petitioned for it to be done.—Mr Collott 'presented a petition from ownors in Guy street, asking it bo formed and motulled, and moved that the prayer be granted as soon as weather permits. Mr McGreevy did not see why this street should bo done more than the others in the bush, none of which had been formed except in pat.-hoH whern thuro wore occupiers.
