Joseph Harry Bentley alias Brown was arrested at the Bluff yesterday on n charge of larceny as a bailee at Wellington. Ho was brought before the R.M. yesterday afternoon. The polioe. explained that accused was arrested on a telegram, and that the warrant was coming by post. The Magistrate said ho had no power to deal with accused unless tho warrant was produced, and he accordingly discharged him. Bentley w»s immediately re-arrested by the police and brought before Mr Stock, a Justice, this morning, who again discharged him on a similar ground. The prisoner was once more re-arrested, and will be detained until the warrant comes to hand.
