HASTINGS RIFLES V. F BATTER!

Tho rifle match which took place at Havelock range on Saturday evening between tho abovo companies resulted in a -victory for tho local team by the small number of bix points. Tho shooting was by no means good. Whether the late holidays havo made the men's hands unsteady or not is an open question, but none of them were "on the job" on Saturday. Towards the end of tho match a good deal of excitement ■was evinced, as a close finish was a certainty. Tho last two shootists, however, decided tho fate of the day. Tho timo was then close on eight o'clock, so the last shots wero at haphazard. After the final decision was given tho victorious team refreshed the defeated men at Host Glass's, after which the Napier team drove back to town.
