A man named Ellingham, from Grcenineudows, left a buggy with two children in it in front of Messrs Kinross and Co.'s store on Saturday, when tho horso started off at a smart pace. Constable Harvey, with great promptitude, ran arid stopped the horse. The owner of tho trap evidently thought it was the constable's duty to do these sort of tilings, as not even a -'Thank yijta" was vouchsafed.
A fitting termination to a holiday has been provided by the Working Men's Club Minstrels, who will give a performance in the Theatre Royal to-morrow evening, and tho excellent programme that has boon drawn up for the occasion should result in the theatre being crowded. The proceeds of the entertainment arc in aid of the hospital funds. Tho final rehearsal takes place iv the Theatre Royal this evening. The prices of admission should suit everyone, being popular.
To-morrow night Mr. Daniels will give an account of tlie riso and progress of tho Seventh Bay Adventist denomination. When and whore did they arise? What occasioned their separation from other churches 'i What has been thoir progress, and what is the extent of thoir missionary operations at present? All .theso points will be explained to thoso who may desire to hoar.
Tho Public Works Committee of tho Borough Council meet on Thursday, and tho Council will hold their meeting on Friday.
At Waipawa to-day, beforo Messrs Johnston and Inglis, .T.P.s, Harry Vance, alias Fleet, pleaded guilty to stealing a swag, tho property of William Smith, from the back of the Empire Hotel. Having a bad record for similar offences, he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment in Napior gaol with hard labor.
