London, December 17. Lieutenant-General Sir Andrew Clarke, in a letter to The Times, denounces the Egyptian war party. An amendment to the Local Option Bill, empowering each district to legislate for itself in the matter of Sunday closing of hotels, has been carried in tie House of Commons. All along the routo to lamohouso, whoro Mr. Gladstone addressed a meeting on Saturday, he received an ovation. In his address he complained in strong terms of the action of the Unionists sitting on tho Opposition benches. He propounded a political programme, including triennial Parliaments and free State education. Calcutta, December 17. Lord Dufferin, in a farowcll speech today, said that he was leaving India without a cloud on her political horizon. New York, December 17. An American salt trust is being formed in this city.
