The attcndauce of spectators was fair, tho ladies also being represented. The wicket was in good order, and somo fine form was shown. The game resulted in a win for the Government officials on the first innings, but there can be no doubt that if tho Civil Service had played on for another quarter of an hour tho Napier team would have made the necessary number of runs to win. Civil Service were the first to go the wickets and succeeded in compiling 84 runs for the first innings. Howard hit very freely for his 32, and Percy, tlie only other man to reach double figures for Civil Service, mado 12. Extras contributed 12. This team's second innings closed for a far smaller score than their first attempt, 36 runs being the total, Turner being top scorer with 11 runs. Napier, on going to the wickets for the first timo knocked together 52. Of this total, Pocock, who promises to prove a valuable acquisition to the Napier Club, made 18 runs, Freeman coming next with 10. The Napier men had 69 runs to make to win in their second innings, and Bell and Humphries were sent to tho wickets. Bell's wicket fell after he had made 4, and White joined Humphries. These two began to sret set, and made it pretty lively for the field. The score stood at 44 for ono wicket when time was called. White lia-ving made 23 aud Humphries Id, both players being not out. In fulfilment of a hope expressed by us a short time ago that Hastings would not drop out altogether from tho cricket world, we are happy to state that a meeting was called by Mr. Tyerman, at which a new club was formed, most of the members of the late County and Hastings clubs joining the new one. Tho cricket ground ou the racecourse has been put in order, and practice was commenced at 1 a.m. on Saturday morning last, when nearly a dozen players put in an appearanco at tiiat early hour. This is a healthy beginning to what wo hope will turn out to bo a profitable season and a permanent club for the City of tho Plains cricketers. Wo understand tho now club will join the Association.
