DEPARTURES.
November. 17—Zillah, ketch, Captain Tage, for Gisborno. 17—Mariner, schooner. Captain Lowis, for Tairua. 18—Mararoa, s.s., for northern ports. R. Puflott, agent. Passengers—Mrs W. K. Chambers, 2 children and nurse; Misses Goldsmith and Beale ; Messrs Sutherland. F. Johnson, W. Prictor, Allen McLican, Lcvinsohn, Myers, McLean, Lysuiir, Signor Agrati, Captain Babot, and seven steerage.
Tho s.s. Kiwi arrived at Wellington yesterday, and will probably leave there again for here to-night. The ketch Zillah had tho necessary repairs effected on Saturday morning, and sailed for Gisborne on Saturday afternoon.
Tho schooner Mariner, Captain Lowis, sailed for Tairua in ballast on Saturday afternoon.
The Union Company's s.s. Mararoa, Captain James Edie, arrived from Wellington at seven o'clock yesterday morning. She loft Melbourne on the 9th instant, and arrived at the Bluff on tho 15th, left again samo night, called at Dunedin on tho Hth, Lyttelton on the 10th, and Wellington on the; 17th, arriving here as above. Experienced fine weather. Sho was tendered by the Wairoa and loft tho roadstead at 6 p.m. It was intended to havo got her away to work Gisborno the same day, but having a large enrgo to put out at this port, this could not be accomplished early enough. The s.s. Kahu arrived from coast stations and Wellington yesterday morning. The Fondle Hill is now taking iv timber, and should be ready to sail for Sydney early next week. The Ahuriri sails for Waimarama tins afternoon.
The Wairoa goes to the Wairoa to-night. Referring to the stranded barque Weathcrsfield, the Munawatu Herald says : "At the last springs the vessel came back, and is now about 2G feet further inshore than prior to the attempt then made to haul her off. Tho representative of the Salvage Association, who is in charge of the operations, informed the visitors that there are GOO fathoms of steel hawser out, and ho is sanguine of the ship coming off at tho next springs, if assisted by an off-shore wind. All the crew, with the exception of tho captain and two apprentices, have been paid off, but a stuff' of workman is kept on board. The vessel is an iron one, and is lying perfectly upright, parallel with tho bench. The earthquake last week was severely felt by those on board." Tho Wnkatipii left Sydney for Wellington •n Saturday. It has been decided by the Marine Department thut no magisterial inquiry is necessary with reference to tho wreck of the schooner Lizzie Guy. Mr Thomson, tha mate of the ill-fated schooner, says that if a rocket life-saving apparatus had been kept on the station the crew could all hive been rescued without difficulty.
