CRUSHING DEFEAT OF THE LATTER. VERY SMALL SCORING. WONDERFUL BOWLING BY TURNER. July 13. A match between the Australians and an Eleven of England bogau at Stoko yester. day. Tho Colonials went in first, and though the wicket was sticky and did not play at all well, succeeded in scoring 2-12. The principal scorers were — McDonnell .. •. .. 52 Bounor .. .. • • .. 38 Blackhaui .. .. .. 23 Jarvis .. .. •. ..18 Worrall 45 Ferris .. .. .. .. 30 Lyons .. .. .. .. 20 Flowers took four wickets for 52 runs, and Pougher four for 81. Owing to tho wonderful bowling of Turner, who proved perfectly unplayable on tho treacherous wicket, England were all out for 28 in their first innings. Heath 11 Scotton ~ .. .. 9 Turner securod nine wickets for 1.5 runs. In their Beeoud attempt Englnnd was a littlo more successful, obtaining 79. Scotton .. .. .. 20 Richardson .. .. .. 15 Ferris took six wickets for 35, and Turner four for 33. The Australians won by an innings and 135 runs.
