Gisbokne. Saturday. Napier won tho football match to-day by two goals and a try to one goal and a try, or— J Napier 7 po f ntß uisborno .. .. 4 points Tho game was a pood one, Percy and McKay playing well for Napier.
The annual interprovineial football match between the Napier and Gisborno teams was playod on Saturday last at Gisborno in Captain Tucker's paddock. Tho local men left Napier on Friday evening , by the s.B. Wniroa. and after a very fair trip, arrived at Gisborno shortly after seven on Saturday morning. At the wharf they wore met by the reception committee, and during their brief stay put up at the Masonic Hotel. At the match in the afternoon there was a good attendance of speatators, who evinced much interest in the game. Of the two teams the Napier men were by far the lighter. The condition of the ground was not what might have been desired, being very lurapy. The Napier 1 men say they met a far bettor team in the field than they expected, the Gisborne forwarde played a different game, thero being no packing of the eorums., while their opponents were very {rood on the line-out. In tho first half SfeKeiiaie secured a try, but LoQuesne failed to increase tho score by the kick at goal. Shortly before half-time was culled Rua scored for Gisborne. Bull took the kick, but no goal resulted. Tijo lattor player, in tho next spell, potted a nice goal from tho Held, the score then standing— Gisborno four points, Napier one. Patterson Hhortly after ihis obtained a try, and taking the shot at goal himself, sent tho ball ovei tho bar, which now brought tho score equal, and tho game that followed after this was very exciting. McKay changed the state of affairs ty kicking a goal for tho Napier team, which made the latter threo points ahead. Gisborno not mako any additions to their score, and the match was decided in favor of the visitors by threo points. A dinner wa*s held in the evening at the Masonic Hotel, and the Napier representatives speak hiirhly of their troatmont while at Gisborno. "The local players returned to town by the s.s.
