ROBERTS, THE GAOL ESCAPEE.

Christchurch, This day At tho R.M. Court this morning, beforo Messrs R. Beetham and H. J. Hall, Jonathan Roberts was sentenced to twelve months' hard labor for escaping from gaol at Timaru. He pleaded guilty. Mr Beetham contrasted his ease with that of Crabtree, saying that he was entitled to more mercy than that offender, as after his escape he conducted himself decently and attempted to earn a living honestly.
