The pioneers of our • mineral industry, says ."Bush Settler,'.' : should not be obliged to send their test samples, but of tho colony or to be exposed to ' the possibility of doubtful assays. Our mining industry has already been a great source of revenue to us, and still we are only standing on the threshold of this our minoral kingdom. Enough cannot bo done by the Government to encourago and facilitate the search for this wealth, and givo reliablo and speedy information about the various finds. Government Assay and Smelting Works should be erected in a suitablo, central position and under an efficient staff of responsible experts, whero any one, on payment of a fco according to ft schedule of charges, could have his sample thoroughly tested and depend on the correctness of the assay. He further adds that all suspicions doubts and vexatious delays would not arise, if prospectors and speculative promoters, by enactment were compelled to obtain and produce a Government assay certificate before ihey could float a company or invite investment of capital. ■ ■ . .
