QECTION No. '277 of the Municipal CorO porations Act is published for general information :—" If any land or building within tho Borough lying within one hundred feet from tho sea, or from a public drain, can be, and is not drained by some pipe or drain to tho satisfaction of tho Council, the Council may make such drain as it thinks necessary to carry tho drainage of such building to tho sea or to such public drain, und may recover the cost of such work, not exceeding ono year's raok-rent of such land or building, from the owner or occupier thereof." NOTICE is hereby given that tho following Resolution passed by the Napier Borough Council at its ordinary general meeting held on the 2nd November, 1837, will take effect as and from tho Ist January, 1888. It was ordained that "The removal of night-soil bo made compulsory throughout tho Borough, and tho removal of house and yaitl refuse compulsory all over tho flats and all over tho Spit." • " ; The following extract from By-law No. 28 is published for general information :— BY-LAW No. 28, SECTION 13. 2. The Council may by a resolution passed at any general or extraordinary meeting cause n notico in writing to be served upon tho owner or occupier of any promises, either by posting the same to him or by personal service, or by affixing such notice to some conspicuous part of the paid premises calling upon him to rsmove, destroy, and abolish any cesspit or cesspool which may exist on "such premises within one month from the date of sei vice of the notice, and in default thereof the Council may remove, destroy, and abolish such cesspit or cesspool, and the exponso thereby incurred shall be recoverable by the Council from such owner or occupier. ] 3. The Council may by a resolution passed at any General or Extraordinary meeting cause a notice in writing to bo served upon the owner or occupier of any premises either by posting the same to him or by personal service, or by affixing such notico to some conspicuous part of the said premises calling upon him to alter within one month from tho dato of tho service of the notice any privy or privies on tho said premises into an earth closet, with the pan system to tho satisfaction of the Inspector of Nuisances of tho Borough for tho time being, or other authorised person, ,nud in default thereof tho Council may alter such privy or privies, and the expense thereby incurred shall be recoverable by the Council from such owner or occupier.
