THE Female Cattle-Stealer.
A CROWDED COURT,
ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL,

Invercargill, This day. Tho Court was crowded to-day, when the young woman Sophia Kidd was brought up ou remand charged with stealing sixteen head of cattle. The case for the prosecution was that she took tho cattle from the farm of Alexander Rosa, at Forest Hill, on tho night of the 9th April, drove them to tho Mataura, a distance of over twenty miles, and sold them at an auction sale on the 10th. For tho defence a number of witnesses wore called, who swore positively that accused wus driving a reaper ou her mother's farm on the 10th, and could mot possibly havo been at Mataura. His Worship said a strong prima facie caso had been made out, and accused would bo committi><l for trial. Bail in. two sureties of £100 each was allowed. • '.
