SECTION No. 277 of tho Municipal Corporations Act is published for general information :—" If any land or building within tbe Borough lying within one hundred feet from tho sea, or from a public drain, can be, and is not drained by some pipe or drain to tbo satisfaction of the Council, the Council may make such drain as it thinks necessary to carry the drainage of such building to the sea or to such public drain, und may recover tho cost of such work, not exceeding one year's rack-rent of such land or building, from tho owner or occupier thereof." "VfOTICE is hereby given that tho folJ_\ lowing Resolution passed by the Napier Borough Council at its ordinary general meeting held on the 2nd November, 1887, will take effect as and from the Ist January, 1888. The following extract from By-law No. 28 is published for general information : — BY-LAW No. 28, SECTION 13. 2. The Council may by a resolution passed at any general or extraordinary meeting cause a notice in writing to be served upon the owner or occupier of any premises, either by posting the same to him or by personal service, or Ly affixing such notice to some conspicuous part of the said premises calling upon him to remove, de- ' stroy, and abolish any cesspit or cesspool ' which may exist on such premises within 1 one month from the date of service of tho i notice, and in default thereof the Council may remove, destroy, and abolish such cesspit or cesspool, and the expense thereby incurred shall be recoverable by tho Council from such owner or occupiei. 3 The Council may by a resolution passed ; at any General or Extraordinary meeting cause a notice in writing to bo served upon the owner or occupier of any premises either by posting the same to him" or by personal service, or by affixing such notico to some conspicuous part of the said premises calling ; upon him to alter within one month from the date of tho service of the notice any privy or privies on tho said premises into an earth closet, with the pan system to the satisfaction of the Inspector of Nuisances of iho Borough for the time being, or other authorised"person, and in default thereof I the Council may alter such privy or privies, ' und tho expeuso thereby incurred shall be recoverable by the Council from such owner or occupier.
