TOWN EDITION.

The following criminal cases will be heard at the sittings of the Suprome Court to be held in Napier on April 4th :—Joseph Fletcher, maliciously killing cattle; Thomas Harrington Conway, larceny from the person : Flora Somers, alias Chaucer, larceny ; Thomas E. D. Fox, forgery ; James Kennedy, larceny ; Charles Stevens, alias John Irwin, forgery.

The return bowling match between the Juniors and Seniors on Saturday, resulted in a victory for the first named by 17 points. There were two rinks of eight players each engaged in the contest.

Tho congregation of St. John's Church last night complained of the strong smell of pas. There must have beon a big leakage somewhere, and many are to-day suffering from headache.

The P. and O. steamer Victoria which left Melbourne on Friday, tho 9th instant, is stated to have carried the largest number of passengers which have ever left any of the Australian ports.

The s.s. Manapouri which left here on Saturday at 3 p.m. arrived at Wellington at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Tho list of civil cases set down for hearing at the civil sittings of the Supreme Court to bo held on the 4th April is as follows:—J. P. Hamlin v. F. Sutton, Mr Lascelles for plaintiff, and Mr Cornford for defendant; Puke Puke Taukuru v. W. Douglas, Mr Reos for plaintiff, and Mr Cotterill for defendant; Watene Hapuka and othors v. Thomas Ilobson, Mr Cresswell for plaintiff's; Sarah Jane Mullenger v. Matthew Henderson and others, Mr C. A. Cave for plaintiff, and Mr P. S. McLean for defendant.

Tho sittings of the Supreme Court were officially adjourned this morning to tho 4th of April.

The following bankrupt estates were declared closed to-day :—James B. Vernon, of Napier, engineer; George Ashworth, of Napier, bootmaker; Samuel Carter, of Napier, draper; George Scarfe, of Napier, grocer • Patrick McGreevv, of Waipawa, butcher; William Rogers, of Hastings, laborer: Edward Moore, of Waipawa, ropemaker ; John Hughes, of Napier, builder ; A. A. George, of Hastings, compositor ; Bartlett Stevens, of Hastings, laborer; William Burgess Rountreo, of Woodviile, carpenter; Alfred Hawes, of West Clive, woolsortor: David Palmer, of Napier, clothier.

It was decided at an informal meeting of the Charitable Aid Board to despatch Mr Million by the first train in the morning, to investigate into the circumstances of thoso who have been burnt out at Norsewood. The charitable public can forward parcels of clothing this evening to Mr Mahon, at tho railway station, who will gladly distribute them.

Tho District Hospital Board met this afternoon. Present : Tho Mayor (in the chair), and Messrs Bennett, Ornvmd, R. D. D. McLean, Ellis, and Cohen. The recommendation of tho Hospital Trustees was adopted, and a levy of one-thirty-sixth of a penny in the pound was ordered to bo made The estimated receipts were from Hawke's Bay County £338 (ss, Wairoa County £09 6s 7d, Napier Borough £151 7s 9d, and Hastings Borough £42 16s 5d The estimated expenditure was—Napier Hospital £1100, Wairoa Hospital £100. From Wairoa a demand for £248 was received. The estimates were adopted.
