SECOND EDITION.

The Chamber of Commerce should have met to-day but there was no quorum. It is probable that the present inconvenient day of meeting will lie changed. It is a wonder that this was not dono long ago.

Mr Sydney Tuiwhanga, M.H.R., arrived in Napier ou Saturday night overland from Wellington, and proceeded north by the Taupo coach this morning.

The New York Life Insurance Company has, through its local agent, distributed its pictoral book almanac for the current year. Like all productions of tho American press, it is beautifully printed, and the illustrations are exquisitely engraved.

At the R.M. Court this afternoon, before G. A. Preece Esq., R.M., William Penfold, on remand, charged with having stolen ono saddle at Koreru to the value of 30s, tho property of John Anderson, was further remanded till the 12th instant.

A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Elizabeth Griffiths, coach proprietor, was held at tho Courthouse this afternoon. There was a good attendance of creditors. Mr Cornford appeared for the bankrupt. Mr Dick represented a creditor, and Mr McLean the Assignee. Tho statement showed unsecured creditors at .£lllO ss, and secured creditors at £3G4 12s Id, book debts set down at £130, estimated to produce £50, furniture and property £150. Tho debtor was examined as to "her affairs. The Assignee said Mrs Griffiths know nothing about tho business, and it was impossible for him to obtain anything from her. It appeared tho only person who knew about the business was" Mr Watkinson, who was in Auckland. A creditor suggested to bring him back.—lt. appeared that tho partnership accounts of Griffiths and Co. and Mrs Gritfiths's private accounts had been mixed up, aud it was resolved to call separate meetings of creditors in Mrs Gritfiths's private estate and of the firm of Griffiths and Co.
