TOWN EDITION.
A site for the* malting-housc in connection with tho Hawko's Bay Brewery was pegged out this morning. The building is to bo 10G foot long by 30 foot wide, and will be able to supply malt in excess of present requirements of the brewery, so that country brewers will have no occasion to rely on importations. If our agriculturists will grow the right description of barley at Messrs Robjohns' brewery next Beason they will find a local market.
The Harbor Board to-day accepted the tender for the first contract on theOmaranui reclamation, of Cranby and Frebblo. Thore were seven tenderers.
Our readers will remember that, about two years ago, a man of tho name of Holland was severely burnt by the alleged capsizing of a kerosene lamp. For a long time the victim hung between life and death, and now ho is quite incapable of taking care of himself. His wife has left him, and he is entirely dependent on the Kindness and charity of his neighbors at the bpit. It is a very hard case, and efforts are being made to obtain his entrance into tho Refuge.
As showing the advancement of the breakwater, it was mentioned to us to-day that persons driving into town by way of Awatoto, can see the crane at the end of the works as soon as they got on the Whiteroad, between the old toll-gate and the borough bound ary.
At a meeting of the Hospital Trustees held this afternoon, the question of erecting an additional fever ward was postponed for a week. The Medical Association in the meantime are to be asked for their opinion, as to complete isolation or the alteration of the present building to suit requirements. To-day for tho reclamation work at tho swamp two tenderers, in a contract of £2000, had ouo half-penny difference between them.
