Last night the theatre was tilled to overflWing, tilled in a manner which ought not to he allowed. The passages were choked and egress was a matter of difficulty, because of the chairs that had been brought into requisition, or due to the presence of a human form ou the step. Now we hold every ticket' should represent a seat, and that no tickets should be sold for which there are not corresponding seats, and then a block would be a matter of impossibility. We may be somewhat proud of the name long ago bestowed ou us by some theatrical agent, and many a time and oft since then confirmed, that of being the host show town in New Zealand, but we wish to guard against some day having to pay too dear for tho distinction. Wo aro always pleased when any travelling company put in a profitable week in our midst, affording enjoyment aud amusement to many, and it will be understood that our remarks do not refer specially to last night's performance, which has only been used as the illustration. We say again that it must, bo the duty pi some one to see that a building used for public purposes is not overcrowded, aud we hope that last night's experience won't be repeated. It is better to bo wiser before an event than after, and had anything gone wrong last night mid a mild panic sot in, there would have been a very harrowing tale to tell.
