Tho Ota go Daily Times says the whole colony will be well pleased at the honor conferred by Her Majesty upon the Premier. The Queen's favor in this ease only follows the popular feeling which has called for his knighthood for some iwo or three years past. It is indeed seldom that a man who has aroused ao much political animosity as Major Atkinson retains so entirely not merely the esteem but personal liking of both friends and foes. Concerning Major Atkinson's knighthood the Star says :—" AVhen we consider his record of good services all will admit that tho Premier has over so long a series of years done to tho State it cannot but bo thought that recognition has been long delayed. Titular honors bestowed by the Crown on distinguished colonists have never beon more worthily conferred than on Major Atkinson, who, we sincerely hope, has still a long period of usefulness before him."
