Entries are duo this evening with the secretary of the Jockey Club at tho Criterion Hotel for the H.B. Cup Handicap and Railway Stakes Handicap.
The second day's racing , of the AuoWitnd summer meeting eventuated yesterday, tho weather bcinj, , tine- I'ranus won the New Tour Hurdle Xiace. Tho Auckland Cup, of 750 soys., 2} miles, resulted in a win for Nelson, Clojrs second, Sextant third. The betting at the start wan 2 to 1 on Nelson. A_ splendid start saw Friendship first away with Sextant, Cannon, and Nelson next in tho order named. Friendship lod round the lower turn, but at the seven furlong post she surrendered premier position to Cannon. Here Leorina fell, and was honceforth out of the race. Cannon and Clogs led to the entrance to the straight, but passing tho stand tlio latter had two lengths' advantage of Victoria and Cannon; Friendship and Nelson being next. Clogs had three lengths of a lead when passing tho seven iurlong post, but approaching the cutting Nelson went up to the front division, and at the halt-mile post he was on terms with Clogs, who was beaten two or three strides further on, Nelson being first to land in the straight. Here the issue seemed for a moment in doubt, aa NtJson was under the whip, but Sextant, nftev showing a bold front at the turn, dit-d away when fairly in a line for home, and Nelson, staving off as he liked evory rush of Clogs, romped homo a winner by ii lenuth: Time, 4min. Gjsec, Nelson, on returning to tho scales, was loudly cheered. Tho Midsummer Handicap fell to. Pcarlshell, the Newmarket Handicap to Cinderella, the Criterion Stakes to Tennyson, the Selling Stakes to Rewi, and the Selling Hurdles to. Black Joe,
At the Christchmcli summer meeting yesterday there was a . fair attendance. Teddy won the Midsummer Hurdle Race, Carbirio the MiddlePftrk Stakes, Springstou the Midsummer Handicap (dividends, £17 17s Gdand €3S Bs}, Parihaka the Selling Race, Ruby the Craven Stakes, Chantilly thu Hornby Welter Handicap, and Normauby the Sourry Stakes.
