Dunedin, This day. Dr Maeandrew is appointed to the charge of the lunatic asylum and gaol at Hokitika.

ACCIDENT TO A STEAMER,

Wellington, This day. The steamer Maori, which left Greymouth for Wellington on Friday, met with a mishap on Saturday morning. It was found that the boiler was leaking, and the water running into the stokehole, threatened to put the fires out. The vessel was taken into Tory Channel, where the fires were extinguished, and tho leakage temporarily repaired, and the vessel came on to Wellington.
