Wellington, This day. Insurances on the Waitaki, so far as can be ascertained, are as follows:—New Zealand office, £1000; South British office, £600; National office, £500.; Equitable office, £500. The insurance value is said to be £5000. The agents expeoted a man in by train to-day, but nobody came, and consequently nothing is known to the cause of the accident. It is understood there is little cargo aboard.

The barque Sir Robert Salo arrived from Calcutta yesterday, after a 82 days'passage. On April 8 one of the crew, a lad named Baker, fell from tho foreyard into the sea, and was drowned.

Captain Daniel Mclntyre, formerly commander of the ship Chrysolite, and the steamer Wellington has died in Lyttelton of scarlet fever. He was 60 yeatsold. Scarlot and typhoid are very prevalent in Lyttelton just now. Martha Jano Blyth, a young woman who six years ago eloped with Matthew Henderson, who committed suicide in Wellington, was charged at the Police Court this morning with concealment of birth. She lived alone, and last Thursday told a little girl who sometimes attended her to make a largo fire in the kitchen. She then sent the child away, telling her to return in an hour. After coming back tho girl went to attend to tho fire and found tho body of a child burning. Her father informed the police, and in tho evening Detectives O'Connor and Neil went and found coals in the grato, which Dr. Symes pronounced thoao of a child, but had not examined them carefully enough to say of what age. Accused denied having been confined. The case is still proceeding. Auckland, This day. The s.s. Waitaki was insured for £1000 in the South British office. North Shore fire insurance:—On building, £800 in the Union office; furniture £550 in the Royal office. Dunedin, This day.
