THE TABLEAUX.

Those who patronise tho entertainment at the Gaiety Theatre this evening will have the pleasure of witnessing one of the best amateur performances that have ever boon given in Napier. Besides a grand musical entertainment, in which some of the best local talent will tako part, there are to

bo given various scenes from popular 02>eras and other pieces. Threo scenes will be shown from " Titania," in which thirty children will pei-form. Then follows three scenes from "Walls Have Ears." These scenes it ia scarcely necessary to describe, as pictures have been seen in the local stationers' shops showing the views to be exhibited this evening. A' young soldier is sitting with his lady love on a seat in the garden, while the father of the young lady is peeping over the wall and watching them. Then tho scene follows where he is attempting to beat the lovers, and thoy jump apart. There are three scenes from " The Old Woman in

the Shoe,'' forty children taking part. Th c scenes shown are where sho is distributing the broth to the children without the bread ; where she is reprimanding the most tiresome children; and, lastly, where they areall quietly asleep. Four scenes from the opera of "Rip Van Winkle" come next, aud we may say that these will bo a treat in themselves to witness. The first scene from the opera is where Rip is sitting with his little boy and a little girl on his knees, and his wife, Gretchen, standing beside him, tolling her Jiow giad he would be to see them married some day. Next scene comes whero Rip is going out shooting, and bids his wife farewell, and afterwards whero all the peasant people turn out to look for him when ho is supposed to be lost. Then follows the scene whero the demon tempts him, with tho ghosts standing behind, and finally where ho is tempted and falls asleep, and tho imps are triumphant. The fourth scene is where ho awakes after his many years sleep, and sees himself in the water of the well. A scene from "Mary Queen of Scots" follows. Mary is in Holyrood Castle bidding good-bye to the other Marys, and giving them each a token whereby to remember hor. Then follows the execution sceue. "Faith, Hope, and Charity," these are tho subjects of tho next scenes, "and are statuary. Five scenes from " Queen of Hearts" aro next shown, and these scenes will also be greatly appreciated, as the tableaux are really exquisite. Fivo scenes from " Blue Beard " will be the conclusion of the tableaux. Blue Beard goes off, leaving the key with Fatima and her Sister Anne is ono scene. Next comes the scene where they

go to tho door and open it, and see inside all the heads hung up, and then comes tho untimely arrival of Blue Beard, who gives Fatima five minutes, and the sister watches for tho brother, who at last arrives, and then the death of Blue Beard himself follows.
