CRICKET.

The match Auckland v. Wellington was concluded at Auckland yesterday, resulting in a very easy win for the former by an innings and 161 runs. About one thousand spectators wore present during the day, and the weather was fine. As stated in our telegraphic columns yesterday, AVellington followed on, but could only put together 71. In the first innings Burns made 32 and Judd 14, and in the second Judd was again to the foro with 22, Heenan (13) and AVilson-Durot (16) being the only other batsmen to reach double figiu-es. The fielding' of both teams was good.

The Wellington cricketers finished their match against Auckland yesterday, and received as bad a thrashing as they gave the Hawke's Bay teum. The result shows that the Wellington team was not such a strong batting one after all, while the bowling was very poor indeed. It was thought they would be in better form when they played at Auckland, but it has been proved they were not. The trip has, no doubt, proved beneficial to tho AVellington players, as well as to those of Hawke's Bay, and it is to be hoped these annual contests will not bo allowed to lapse. AYe believe that Mr Riley, a popular AVellington boniface, and well known in cricketing circles here, has promised to pay the expenses of the Hawke's Bay team visiting the Empire City next year, so there should be no troublo whatever in selecting a team worthy of such a generous and sportsmanlike offer.
