CRICKET.
UNION CO. V. NAPIER C.C. (CUP MATCH.)
A cup match was played between the abovo Clubs on the Recreation Ground this afternoon. The Napier team were tho first to go to tho wickets. Fordc was caught by Gardiner off Patterson when ho had contributed 13. Salmon and White got together, and began to make it lively for the field. The Union bowlers, Gardiner, Graham, Patterson, and Freeman, relieved each other alternately. Tho score was coming up apace whonl'reeman sent in a good ball, ■which took White's stumps, that batsman having made tho nice score of ?.l. Free-' man continued bowling well, and with a similar ball as that which dismissed White, took Martin's wicket. There was a strong breeze blowing across tho field, but the wicket was fast and true. Smith's wicket fell to Graham's bowling, the score standing at 81 for 4 wickets, Salmon still occupying the crease, and playing a steady innings. Howard and Watkins contributed a few, and when the latter's wicket fell to Gardiner the score stood at 100 for G wickets, with Salmon still in. Salmon gave a chance to Dempsey, who, however, missed it. Wyatt relieved Freeman at the bowling. Salmon was at last dismissed by Patterson with a full toss, having made the capital score of 50, the score then standing 113 for 7 wickets. Tho remaining batsmen did not make much of a stand, and the innings closed for 128 runs. Scores : — napieb—lst innings.
