" Alibi !" the new Berlin aquatic journal, speaking of the bad arrangement of classes in vogue in France, which consist of Juniors, Seniors, and Veterans (the latter a class better than Seniors), without the least reference to whether races have been won at single or combined sculling, or rowing, says:—" It is not surprising to learn that this superficial arrangement does not any longer satisfy French oarsmen. The powerful contingents of the Paris clubs are a thorn iti the side of tho provincial organisations, for they can with ease carry off every prize. This is especially the case with the first crew of the Ccrcle do I'AvironParis, which is not sent to regattas by the club, the crew going at its own risk. There are now eighteen winners of the English Derby alive, Macaroni, who won in 1563, being the oldest.
