The ground committee of the Napier Park Racing Club met on the racecourse yesterday afternoon and decided upon several improvements to be. done •• before their autumn meeting. Amongst other improve-' ments two totalisator-houses are to be erected, a secretary's office, "and a large - jockeys' room. Several-other improvements are in contemplation, which it is intended to carry out at a future date, which will make the racecourse one of the most replete for convenience of both owners of horses and the public in New Zealand. The other day I had a look at a yearling filly that had been bought at the last sale of the Auckland Stud Company-for MrW. Broughton. • She was a very good-looking bay filly by Musket out of Atalanta. Atalanta was by Dainty Ariel out of Moonshine, who-was by Libel out of, Twilight, who'was'by .Velocipede. The bree.ding reade right enough, and if she never races she should' be a valuable mare to breed from. She has a very neat head,. .which is not quite" so' well" "set on her neck, which is ■jather shorter than I like. Heii shoulders are deep and powerful, but perhaps a little too straight.. She has arms and good clean legs of good quality. Sho has a very deep girth,,a good;back,; long powerful hindquarters, well let down to good clean hocks. Her hocks and knees are as they should be —near <the .groand. She shows a lot of quality j and if she continues to grow should make a bigthree-yoar r old, but she looks to me as being too well furnished for a yearling to bo one likely to grow very much. • There is very little work of any interest being done on the training track, as most of our best horses arc away at Wellington. As soon os they come back'l shall commence my training notes. i- _ The nominations for the Napier Park races must be considered very satisfactory, considering that the Wanganui races are run at the same time. There are 13 nominations for the Hurdles, 22 for the Napier Cup, 16 for the Welter, and 25 for the Hying • Tie weights for these events are due next Wednesday. .There are 17 horses outside of Hawke's that have been nominated for these events, and although some of them are sure to go to Wanganui, we may expect a very good meeting. I was not far out m my tips for the first day's lacing at the Hutt, as I spotted the -winner in three out of the four races I tipped for. I tipped Soudan for the short race, and he started a hot favorite for it, but failed to get a place. It eecnuras though both he and Silence had gone off a lot fflnce. they have been away, as they certainly have not been running up to their proper form- The races which are to be run to-day will have taken place before these notes are read, but I expect Forester will have won the Hutt Park Stakes, Orient should, if in any form, wmjiie Hurdles, and Titbit the Racing Club Handicap. _. , , The nominations for the: Canterbury Jockey Club's autumn meeting close this eV The Waipukurau Jockey Club have issued their programme for.Easter Monday. They are gmng £250 added money. The chief event is the Waipukurau Handicap, of 100 soys There is also a Hying Handicap of 30 aova, Hurdle Race of 30 soys, Bracelet Handicap of the value of 30 soys, and a District Handicap of 40 soys.
