WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.
This Day
Present—Crs. Bibby, Ilorrick, Small, Smith, Carlile, Hall, Youngman, and Ross. Cγ. Smith was appointed chairman temporarily, as the annual election is at the cud of the month.
Crs. Carlile and Herrick were appointed tho finance committee with the chairman.
The Public Works Department wns willing to contribute ,£7oO to the Manawatu bridge on consideration that tho Council spend ,C 250 on the last work applied for. On tho suggestion of the chairman, a motion wns moved by Cr. Hall that Sir Stewart be requested to pass the work as soon as 2>ossible, and application be made for the grant. The railway manager wrote about tho proposed alteration of the road to Papatu, and thought the Department would object to crossing tho line.—Cr. Small thought a better deviation could be made, and moved that the overseer sco Mr Boviiid, and see what arrangement he would make. Carried.
The Public Works Department reported that £000 was allocated to tho Council re the Seventy-mile Bush road, and forwarded an agreement for its completion. — Cr. Ctrlilo moved tho chairman be authorised to sign the same. Tho Norscwood Road Board asked for as large a subsidy as possible for necessary works on back lines.—Cr. Small moved that the overseer report, and that a reply be sent accordingly. Carried. Mr Hemmingsen, collector of rates at Makaretu, sent" in a list of unpaid rates, and asking for an extension of time and an advance payment. —Tho sum of £1 was voted, and ho was directed to use judgment as to suing. Mr Miller, of Danevirke, wrote that he had beep asked by the overseer to fill in a gravel pit on tho road near Danevirko. He replied that he did not make the hole.— The overseer said ho had served notices ou three persons under section 100 of tho Public Works Act.— Mr Seally wrote expressing his willingness to fence tho hole round. —After crnsiderablc discussion, during which the dangerous character of tho hole was strongly commented on, it was resolved that tho mutter be left to the road overseer to arrange for filling in or fencing when, next visiting the place. Mr Lambert offered £3 per acre for a portion of the old North Road near AshleyClinton, and on the motion of Cr. Ross the oiler was accepted. The Chairman of the Patangatu County asked the Council to appoint three members to meet three appointed to adjust the accounts between the two Counties.—Ors. Smith, Herrick, and Bibby were appointed to meet in tho "Waipawa Council Chamber next Tuesday at noon.
Diinevirko Road Board asked the Council to tiiko over the road to Mungiitori and Waitui from main South rood.—Cr. Carlile moved that tho matter bo postponed till next meeting.
Tho Public Works Department wrote that Mr Moody would attend tho Council and explain what was intended rr. roud to tho station. Crs Bibby, Ross, and Smith wero appointed a committee to examine the plans dining the adjournment at lunch and report proposals re the deviation of Pinfold

Two petitions wero presented by Cr Carlile from twenty-two settlors, asking the Council to take over No. 2 mad, lleretaiingu block, as the main outlet, and from thirty-six settlers of Muungatui Viilley, asking that tho road from Perfect's corner of Pinfold road, running along theMaungatui Valley, through Mahiirnharu block bo proclaimed a county road. The petitions were received, and ordered to bo left over till next meeting.
The overseer was instructed to arrange with tho various local bodies to open, quarries near Woodville.
The Council decided to sanction the proposed deviation of the road to Gwavas and Hampden. Plans, showing the proposed deviation of Ifarding's road were received.
Or Curlilo moved that an increase in the representation of Waipawa Riding was not required, and if ruled out of order ho said ho would give notice.—Cγ Herrick pointed out tho necessity of first rescinding tho prior resolution.
Tho Council then adjourned for lunch
