WAIPAWA.

(FEOir OtTE OWN COnKESrOJTDENT.)

November 5

To-day at noon tho Waipawa Hospital Committee met at tho courthouse. Present : Messrs W. C. Smith (chairman), Bibby, Mnckersey, and Ross. A quantity of correspondence was road in connection with tho introduction of tho new Act, including a telegram from the Premier to the effect that in order to cnablo Boards to moro readily perform their functions Government will make the payments for Hospitals and Ch'iritablo Aid it hiis hitherto made np to tho end of the present month, but tho Board must from tho Ist December make provision as the Act requires, tho Government grunting tho subsidies provided in the Act. Tho proceedings wero very brief nnd conversational, and on the motion of Mr Mnckerscy, seconded by Mr Bibby, the Board adjourned to 3 p.m. on Friday. It is to be hoped that all persons holding subscription lists will press them on their employes with energy, as the floating portion will not be called upon for rates as the residents will, and it is no use. blinking the fact that under the new circumstances more money will bo needed than hitherto, and a more jealous caro in tho distribution of charitable aid in every form will bo roquisito. Last night a meeting of persons interested in lawn tennis was held at the Empire Hotel with the object of forming a new club, when Messrs A. Guy, A. Jull, Loughnan, and Montgomery were appointed a committee, with Mr A. Guy as .secretary nnd treasurer. Another meeting to receive and consider a code of rules will bo held next Thursday. This business is not in my lino, but I have heard a lot of grumbling about people using the late club's property without contributing a cent towards their cost, and therefore tho present must bo a move in the right direction.

Tho threatened information against C. Leach for selling beer in quantities of two gallons has hern laid, and will bo heard at Ormomlville Court next Wednesday. This raises a large and important question.
