SPORTING NOTES.

[By " Hippo."] The Waipawa County Racing Club arc to be congratulated on tho splendid acceptances they havo received for their May Day race meeting. For the Flying Handicap out of 14 nominated 10 have cried con tent. Christina lias been turned out, Emir Bey has been left in Auckland, and Assegai has not yet been put into work, so this only leaves Mangaohane, who was handicapped at Gst 711)S, who has not accepted. For the Handicap Hurdles 5 have acccpteel out of 7 nominated. Pilot I hear is being reserved for the hack races, so as to be able fo compete for the Hawko's Bay Jockey Club Ladies' Bracelet, and Othello, vvho was allotteel 9st, hasnot accepted. For tho May Day Handicap 5 havo paid up and 5 dropped out, Christina and Emir Bey for reasons above mentioned, Kincraig prefers going for the Selling Race, and Smeorach and Mangaohane, with Gst Tibs and Gst respectively, have not paid up ; they aro both looking very well, aod if they are not good enough to go with these weights they are not worth their oats. For the Ladios' Bracelet out of 14 nominated S have accepted. Assegai and Pilot for reasons alreaely mentioned have dropped out. Chummy has never been in work, Flemington , Phanton, and Rifleman aro the others left out. For tho Selling Race 9 have entered. With all these horses to contest the different events, should the weather bo fine, this should be the most successful meeting tho club has ever had. The course, I am informed, is in first-rate order at present, and if we do not have too much rain there will bo nothing to complain of. For the Hurdles, from his Auckland running, I prefer the chances of Director, and shall tip 'Director 1, Pastime 2, aud Denbigh 3. For the May Day Handicap, had Christina stayed in, aud been fit and well, I should have looked to her to wm ; as it is, I think Leonato, who is looking as fit and well as ever I saw him, will bo the first past tbo post. Should Ugly Buck take it into his head to go, he should be very close on his heels, with or Amazon third. For tbe Ladies' Biacclet, should Director start for the May Day Handicap he could hardly be asked to come out again for this race. 'l fancy he will go for tho bi" money especially if tho ground should be°heav3 r . In his absence 1 should pick— Liberty 1, Oberon 2, and Amazon ■'/. Tlie Flying Handicap should be a very tight race, and if they get well away together the judge will have to keep a sharp look out to spot tbo first past the post. I shall tip Bard 1, Abraham 2, Waewaetiki 3. The Selling race will be fought out between Kiucraig and Abraham, and I shall tip them in this order with Oberon third.

There aro several horses in work for the hack races which should fill well.

Having finished with these races I will try my tips for the Wellington ones which take place on the same and following day. For the Petone Stakes I like Pasha 7st 1 lib, and Hinemoa Sst 91b, and believe they will finish first and second, with Minerva third. The Hurdle Race will, I think, be won by one of the two top weights as they both belong to the same party, it will depend upon which is wanted, so I shall tip Scrutineer or Maccaroni, lngomar next. For the Autumn Handicap I again say Pasha at 7st 21b is the best in, and shall tip him first, Clogs 2, Sou-wester 3, and shall give the same tips for the Tradesman's Handicap. I would remind members of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club that the annual meeting of the Club takes place to-morrow at 11 a.m., for the purpose 'of electing a president, treasurer, and committee, also to receive tho annual report and ballance-shcet.

Little Boys' worsted Suits of Superior quality in Heather and Navy, Neal and Close have a full range of sizes.
