r: A'.boyof sixteen, named Jo_n Rose, sonof :most respectable paronts, distinguished himself yesterday by obtaining a gun, in the name of his former employer,, from/a .local tradesman, and .sallied : forth .into, the country pointing it, in.a threatening manner; at a young man in the street before leaving, Blonheim:: The boy having been, in the lunatic asylum in consequence, of strange; exploits, in the Wanganui district twelve .months ago. The parents gave information: tothepolice, whosearched the country forthe .boy yesterday afternoon, found him and took him and his gun into custody. He had bought powder., blank cartridges, , provi -dons, and several small articles of clothing, presumably' for a long, expedition. When.-arrested ho; said he had been out to shoot a young, woman.who had.decoiyed him, and_ wjio is of course entirely a creature of hisimagitia-; .tion, and that he didnip.t;.,like' tp, .re. urn to his father's house because poison was- laid for him all about tho place, which is equally untrue- , Since his arrest he states that this is not the first time ho imitated Ned Kolly,and that while in the Wellington Asylum he. tried to hang himself with, sheets, but although ho hung half an hour, ho failed because he had not tied the slip-knot properly.
