August 20. Tho Nile is falling steadily, and the passage of the Cataract, by which it was proposed to convey the British expedition to Khartoum in boats, is now impossible. It is believed that the despatch of the proposed expedition via tho Nile' Valley and Bongola will be abandoned, and that tho troops will be despatched from Suakim across the Desert, and by way of Berber to Khartoum.
