with four or five passengers. 16—Rotomahana, s.s., from Sydney via Northern ports. Passengers — From Sydney: Miss Creagh. From coast: Dr. and Mrs Grabham, Mr and Mrs Neal, Mrs Bogg and child, Misses Wikura and Cameron, Mrs Hannay, Mrs Carter, Judge Williams, Rev. Father Riordan, Messrs J. Wamock, A. Mason, W. Peters, Williams, Lamberton, Hannah, Morrice, Lawrence, Malone, Coombes, McKenzie, Davis, and 11 steerage.
DEPARTURES. August 15—Thomas Russell, s.s., for Gisborne and
Auckland. 15—Kiwi, s.s., for Wellington and the coast. Passenger—Mr Groves.
The Union Company's s.s. Rotomahana, 1727 tons, Captain Carey, from Sydney via Gisborne and Auckland, arrived at the anchorage at 7.15 am. this day, and was at once tendered by tho steamers Boojum and Sir Donald for mails, passengers and cargo. The Rotomahana left Sydney at . 5 p.m. on the 7th, passed the Three Kings at 11.30 a.m. on the 11th, rounded tho North Cape at 3.30 p.m., and arrived m Auckland at 7 a.m. on the 12th; left at 1 p.m. on the 14th, rounded East Cape at D a.m. on the loth, and anchored in Poverty Bay at 3 p.m.; Jeft at 11 p.m., and reached Hawke's Bay as above. Experienced moderate variable winds with heavy northerly swell from Sydney to Auckland, strong north-easterly winds with beam sea to Poverty Bay, and thence thick dull weather to arrival. Her outward mails and passengers for Melbourne via Southern ports were to leave the wharf at 2 p.m., the steamer getting away on their transhipment. The p.s. Manaia, Captain Baxter, got back from Wairoa about 3.30 p.m. yesterday, bringing cargo and passengers. She will be leaving again on Monday night. The s.s. Kiwi, Captain James Campbell, steamed for Wellington via the coast at 1.30 p.m. yesterday. The s.s. Go-Ahead, Capt. Plumley, due here from Wellington this mormng-, had not arrived up to the time our report left the Spit. It will now probably be Monday before she can get away again. The s.s. Wairoa, Capt. H. Anderson, in coming in from Wairoa via Mahia at 12 o'clock last night, got on a sand bank at the end of the fascine work, and was unable to get off again until noon to-day. Wo understand she has sustained no damage. The s.s. Thomas Russell, Capt. Helander, got away for Gisborne and Auckland at 1.45 p.m. yesterday, taking a quantity of posts and other cargo. She is telegraphed as having reached Gisborne at 9 a.m. this day. Tho Union Company's s.s. Te Anau is reported as having left Wellington at 6 o'clock last evening for Northern ports, but up to 1 p.m. had not been signalled, evidently having been delayed by the prevailinn- north-easterly wind and sea. She was, however, hourly expected.
