PRESBYTERIAN SYNOD.

Dunedix, This day. The Presbyterian Synod has concluded its session. Professor Halmond and the Revs. Messrs Steven and Cameron were appointed deputies to the Northern Church. At the Synod last night Mr Fitzgerald, the Rector'of the Normal School, drew attention to tho statement by the Rev. Mr Stevens that the majority of the State school teachers sneered at the Bible. He said he had carefully gone over the list ot teachers, and although one or two _ take a prominent position in opposition to Christianity, for every one of such he could name ten equally "prominent Christian workers, whilst he could name fifty who were nnietly and heartily doing their duty as Christians. Mr Stevens, however, maintained his statement. The Moderator pointed out that the Synod _ was now irresponsible for Mr Stevens' views.
