This Day. (Beforo Captain Preece, R.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Joseph Langley and _ Thomas Mansell were each fined 5s for this offence. Accused was remanded for a week for medical examination. SLAUGHTERING OFFENCE. John Hollis was charged with having, on the 30th November, caused to be slaughtered on his premises some lambs, his premises not being a slaughter-house under the Act. The defendant pleaded guilty, but said he had been in the habit of doing so for the last eight and a-half years, without being told that he was doing wrong. Mr Cotterill said the proceedings were instituted by tho Hawke's Bay County Council, and he would ask His AVorship to inflict a substantial fine, so that warning might be given to others of the illegality of such practices. Defendant was fined £3, costs 13s, solicitor's fee £1 Is, and 10s for the expenses of a witness, or in default 14 days imprisonment, i The fine was paid.
