NAPIER HARBOR BOARD.

A special meeting of tho Harbor Board avus held this morning for the purpose of examining tho plans for the proposed break - Avulcr. Present: Air J. D. Ormond (chairman), the Alayor. Alessrs J. N. AVilliams, J. A. Smith, 'Dolbel, Wardrop, AY. C. Smith, and 11. Williams. The Chairman explained the object of the meeting, and risked for an expression of opinion as to what course should bo adopted. He Avould suggest that thoy should take each plan, make some mark upon it to show that it bad been opened, and thoy might then decide as to whether they Avould adopt any particular plan or not. IlisWorshipthcAluyor .suggested that, as (lie opening of all the plans Avould take a considerable time, a sub-committee should he appointed to go through them, and to report to tho Board. .Mr J. A. Smith: I should like to look at tho plans myself. The Alayor : I presume any member of tho Board would be at liberty to do that. Tho Chairman : I don't think it Avill take a very long timo to go through tho plans. It avus eventually decided that this course lie adopted, the Chairman remarking that the engineers avlio supplied the plans claimed to be protected in the matter of not making their plans public, and lie avus inclined to agree with them in that respect. The examination of the plans avus then proceeded with, and thirty-four separate plaits were inspected, Avhich occupied a considerable time. Tho Chairman said that, ns the Board had now a general knowledge of tho various designs sent in, the next question would bo for them to decide Avhat was to bo done with regard to tho plans. Air 11. AVilliams suggested that they should be hung along tho walls of tho Council Chamber, but this .vas not considered practicable. It avus eventually proposed, on the motion of Air AY. C. Smith, seconded by Air H. AVilliams, " That further consideration of tho matter bo postponed till the ordinary mooting of the Board on Tuesday next, ancl that in the meantime members of the Board be ulloavocl to sco tho plans, Avhich are to bo left in the secretary's charge, and put up in the Harbor Board office for the inspection of members." Motion carried. Air AY. C. Smith said ho wished to state that, in tho event of no other member tabling a motion Avith reference to the plans !nt next Tuesday's meeting, he should be prepared to take some definite action himself. His object in stating this .was that members of the Board should not be taken by surprise in the matter. Ho thought they could not afford to Avaste any more time without deciding on some definite course of action.

Tbe meeting then adjourned.
