NAPIER HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

Monday, Nove.i.ber •">,

(Continuedfront lust issue. J

A letter waH read from the architect, stating that the drainage scheme was now complete.—Some discussion followed the reading of this letter, the general t.one_ of which was that more care in the cleaning out of the drains should be exercised. It was ultimately resolved, upon the motion of Mr Knowlcs,' that Dr. Monzies should be instructed to sec the drains thoroughly cleaned out, weekly.

The Secretary read the follow ing copy of a letter .sent by the chairman to the Colonial Secretary on the subject of hospital grants:

—" Sir,--! Inno tho honor to address you on tho subject of a grant for this hospital out of the amount voted by Parliament for hospital buildings. Tho committee have been enabled through funds placed at their disposal by the lor-al bodies and general public, to largely add to tho building, aud effect very great improvements. This has all been done without asking for any contributions from tho Government in respect to building. It is estimated that about £300 AviH'be required for the complete furnishing of the addition, and the commit fee hope you will see your way to authorise the payment of this amount. The attention of the committer, has been callod to a report of an application on behalf of the Christchurch Hospital, Avhen a sum of £000 or £1000 Avas granted, and there is a general feeling here that this community, having paid for the additions, have just grounds for asking that the Government will assist iv tho way indicated." Tenders for the proposed additions to the hospital were opened, and after a long discussion, it Avas agreed to postpone consideration of the (piestion till the next meeting, plans for a fever Avnrd to be prepared in the meanwhile, and Messrs Knowlcs and AVilliams, and Dr Spencer to act in connection with the latter as a committee to consult Avith the architect.

Tho remaining business was unimportant.
