Pel-o Gomez full brother to Vasco di Gama won the Middle Park Plate, Noavmarket Stakes, Ascot Derby, St. Lcger Doncaster Stakes, Grand Duke of Michael Stakes and Royal Stakes (in all about £1-1,000). He has been a most successful sire'in England, and his son Peregrine Avon the 2000 guineas stakes (worth about £5000) and was"only beaten by a head for the Derby and was sold for 7000 guineas. As a racehorse Opawa proved himself a worthy descendant of bis high lineage, having Avon some of the best contested races on this coast, giving lumps of Avcight to his opponents. As a thrcc-year-old, after standing the season, he ran two Avcight-for-age races at Blenheim. As a four-year-old, after standing the season, he Avon the Wanganui Stakes, £80, Aveightfor age, beating Black Eagle, Satellite, Tambourini, and Maid of the Mill. Tho next day he came out again, and avou the W.J.C. Handicap, of £170, carrying Bst 31b, beating nine others, including Tambourini, Black Eagle, and Maori Weed. In the same month, at Taranaki, bo avou tho Cup of £50, Aveight for age, two miles, beating Tambourini after a splendid struggle. The same day, carrying 9st 21b, he won the Ladies' Purse, beating Tambourini, Resolution, and Camclia, Tho next day Opawa placed the T.J.C. Handicap, £100, to bis credit, carrying Bst 4lb, and then finished the day by Avinning the Raihvay Stakes in a canter. The following year ho again Avon tho W.J.C. Handicap, 9st 71b, and Wanganui Stakes, Aveight for ago. Opawa also Avon several other Avcll-contestcd races. It will bo seen, therefore, that OpaAva is Avell Avorthy of tho attention of breeders, his pedigree being of the highest strains of winning blood, and his performances unequalled" on this side of the world. He is as sound as the day he Avas foaled, and possesses a constitution of unsurpassed excellence. His stock have turned out well, as his first season's foals furnished Lancaster, Avinner of tho Marlborough Spring Stakes.
