ENQUIRY INTO WRECK OF SCHOONER WILLIAM AND JANE.
Auckland, This day. The Collector of Customs held an enquiry at the Custom-house yesterday into the tho cause of tho Avreck of tho schooner William and Jane. Captain William Burnett, and Jons, Harles, Selkirk, and Andrew Grey (A.B.'s) were examined. From tho evidence given it appeared that the vessel was of 69 tons, four years old, and well found. She left Dunedin on September 9 for the Waikato river, with a cargo of 102 tons of oats and oatmeal. The vessel was valued at £1100, and was insured for £750 in the United Insurance office. Tho freight was insured for £100, but in what office is not known. The cargo Avas little damaged, and Avas valued at £050. Tho owners of tho vessel are Captain and William Barker, of Stewart's Island. Everything was done that was possible to save tho vessel from going ashore.
