Tennis players beware! Tho game has developed a new disease. Even in our amusement, says a Homo paper, nature seems to warn us against excess. \Vhcn skating-rinks were at their height of fashionable supremacy young surgeons got to bo quite adepts in dealing with what is technically known as Collis's fracturo ; and there arc certain doctors who, each succeeding month of May, recognise the familiar symptoms of " Acadenry headache." Tho newest grievance is a little more acute in its sufferings, and more obstinate in its delay. There arc delicate sheaths which encaso the the muscles of tho arm, and which may bo wrenched and distorted by special exercise. Lawn-tennis is peculiarly favourable to this result, and "a lawn-tennis elbow" is added to tho ills which nineteenth-century flesh inherits. The cure is peculiarly disagreeable, as "perfect'rest" is one of tho items in the doctor's progamme. A confirmed tennis-player can no more take perfect rest than a confirmed glutton can dine on cold moat. But he can play with his left hand while ho rests his right, and thus, if tennis elbow becomes anything like as | usual ailment as tennis playing is an accomplishment, we shall find tho number of left-handed sensibly increaso. But not content with frightening tennis players with tho "lawn-tennis elbow" tho. London doctors have now found out an even more deadful sequela to the game, viz., "lawntennis knee," a learned account of which is contributed to the Lancet by Dr. Oi M. Moullin, F.R.C.S. Reduced to plain language it seems to be a severe sprain. Complete abstention from the game, and indeed from most forms of exerciso appears to be necessary to a cure, Dr. Moulin stating that lie has known it brought back in a very much aggravated form by a single game after two years' complete abstention.
